At Himex Corporation, we believe in creating a workplace where people can grow not only in their careers, but also as individuals. We are committed to helping our teams progress through hands-on experience, continuous learning, and opportunities to take on new and evolving roles as the industry advances.
Few stories reflect that better than the journey of Ray Orbillo, our Clinical Application Head.
With around 25 years at Himex, Ray’s career is a powerful example of the growth that is possible within the company. What began as an opportunity in an Account Executive role eventually led him into the medical technology space, where he discovered a passion for clinical applications, advanced imaging systems, and supporting healthcare teams in delivering better patient care.
His story is one of growth, curiosity, and commitment – not only to technology, but to the clinicians and patients who rely on it every day.
A career that evolved with the industry

Ray describes Himex as the place that gave him his first real career break. From there, his path continued to expand as both healthcare technology and his own expertise developed over time.
Over the years, his responsibilities became more specialized, eventually leading him into the highly technical and clinically focused role he holds today. For Ray, one of the most rewarding parts of his journey has been growing alongside the equipment and systems he supports. As imaging technology advanced, so did his knowledge, his role, and his impact.
That kind of career progression is something we value deeply at Himex. We believe in giving people room to develop, discover their strengths, and step into opportunities that challenge and inspire them.
Driven by challenge, precision, and continuous learning
What drew Ray into this field was the complexity of the equipment itself: “I love the challenge of troubleshooting systems where there’s zero room for error. Specializing in this area allows me to dive deep into high-end tech like Canon’s systems, where you’re constantly learning something new to stay ahead of the curve…”
That mindset is essential in a field where innovation never stands still.
For Ray, specializing in clinical applications is not just about understanding the machinery, but it is also about understanding how that technology supports clinicians in real-world healthcare settings. It is this blend of technical expertise and practical application that makes the role both demanding and deeply fulfilling.
His passion for learning is also a reminder of something important: at Himex, growth does not stop once you are hired. We encourage our people to deepen their knowledge, expand their capabilities, and build careers that evolve with the industry.
Bridging technology and clinical care
As Clinical Application Head, Ray’s day-to-day work sits at the intersection of technology and patient care.
A typical day may involve running diagnostics on imaging equipment, performing product demonstrations, calibrating systems for peak performance, and consulting with clinical staff to ensure they are confident using the technology. It is a role that requires both sharp technical ability and strong communication skills.
According to Ray, “In the field, things don’t always go by the manual, so you have to be able to think on your feet. Beyond that, communication is huge. You’re the bridge between high-end machines and the medical staff who use it; you must be able to translate technical terms into practical, clinical terms so they feel confident using the equipment…”
It is this close collaboration with clinicians that Ray enjoys most. When he helps optimize a system or solve a clinical hurdle, he knows he is directly supporting healthcare professionals in delivering faster, more accurate care.

Why advanced imaging matters
Ray’s enthusiasm for medical imaging technology is clear, especially when he speaks about the systems he has worked with.
One of his favorite products has been Canon Medical’s ultrasound systems, particularly because of their ability to combine powerful clinical performance with intuitive usability. He points to innovations such as Superb Micro-vascular Imaging (SMI) as true game changers: technology that can reveal tiny, low-velocity blood flow that older systems may not detect.
For clinicians, this level of image detail can make a major difference in early diagnosis. For patients, it can mean quicker answers, earlier intervention, and a smoother overall care experience.

From Ray’s perspective, advanced imaging improves care by increasing both speed and certainty. Better image quality allows clinicians to detect issues earlier, make better-informed decisions, and reduce the need for repeat scans. In turn, that can lower patient stress and, in some cases, reduce unnecessary radiation exposure.
“For example, with high-end Ultrasound or CT, a doctor can detect a tiny lesion or a vascular issue much earlier. That means the patient gets a diagnosis in days instead of weeks, and they can start treatment before a condition worsens. From a technical standpoint, the better the image quality I can help provide, the less likely a patient has to come back for a ‘re-scan,’ which reduces their stress and radiation exposure. It’s about giving the medical team the clearest possible map so they can make the best possible decisions…”
He is particularly excited by the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in imaging workflows. Features such as AI-assisted measurements and intelligent 3D rendering are helping clinicians work faster and with greater consistency. For Ray, this shift represents something bigger than automation, it is the move from simply capturing images to enabling more intelligent, data-driven diagnosis: “… It’s also exciting because it removes the human variability. It helps a clinician get a perfect, high-resolution 3D rendering of complex structures like a fetal heart or a vascular auto measure with just one click. It’s moving us away from just ‘taking a picture’ to ‘intelligent data capture,’ which means faster, more accurate diagnoses for every patient…”
The moments that make the work meaningful
We asked Ray about the most memorable parts of his career, and his answer goes beyond the equipment: “One that really sticks with me was a late-night emergency call for a malfunctioning ultrasound in a critical care unit. The team needed it for an urgent diagnosis, and the pressure was high.
Getting that system back online and seeing the relief on the clinicians’ faces when they got the clear images they needed was incredibly rewarding. It’s in those moments you realize you aren’t just fixing a machine you’re an essential part of the lifesaving process. It’s a powerful reminder of why we do what we do at Himex…”
In another case, a diagnostic clinic faced the possibility of postponing a full day of important fetal screenings after their primary ultrasound system went down. Ray was able to quickly diagnose the issue, resolve the software communication problem, recalibrate the system, and restore full performance. Beyond the technical fix, what stayed with him was the immediate shift in energy in the room – the confidence that returned once the team knew they could continue caring for their patients.
That is the real impact of clinical applications and technical support. Behind every machine is a team that needs to work with confidence, and behind every successful diagnosis is technology that has to perform at its best.
A culture of shared expertise
For Ray, being part of Himex is about more than the role itself. It is also about the culture.
Even when he is out in the field, he says he never truly feels like he is working alone. There is a strong sense of shared expertise across the company, and that collective knowledge makes a real difference when complex challenges arise.
He also takes pride in the brands and technologies Himex represents. “There’s also a real sense of pride in the brands we represent. Working with top tier equipment like Canon Medical Systems means we aren’t just fixing things we are providing the gold standard of care. Being part of a team that is so committed to excellence and professional growth makes the day to day work very fulfilling…”
That environment of collaboration, excellence, and professional growth is one of the things that continues to make the work fulfilling after all these years.

Advice for the next generation
For anyone interested in a career in this field, Ray’s advice is simple: stay curious.
Healthcare technology moves fast, and success depends on being willing to keep learning. He encourages people not just to learn how a machine works, but to understand the science behind it, to go deeper, ask questions, and remain open to growth.
That advice reflects the kind of people who thrive at Himex Corporation: those who are eager to learn, ready to adapt, and motivated by the opportunity to make a real difference.
